What changes in 2026–27?
The revised AP World Language and Culture framework takes effect in the 2026–27 school year. For AP Chinese, the most visible changes are a new required Course Project, revised speaking tasks, stronger use of authentic sources, and a fully digital May 2027 exam in Bluebook.
This means course planning should begin with communication and cultural inquiry rather than a collection of isolated vocabulary units. Students need repeated practice understanding Chinese-language sources, identifying cultural products, practices, and perspectives, organizing evidence, and speaking responsively about what they have learned.
2026–27 学年有哪些变化？
修订后的 AP World Language and Culture 课程框架将于 2026–27 学年生效。对 AP 中文而言，最明显的变化包括新增必修 Course Project、更新口语任务、加强真实资料的使用，以及 2027年5月通过 Bluebook 进行全数字化考试。

Organize the year around six themes
The framework names six thematic units. College Board provides recommended contexts, but teachers may choose their own sequence and content. Use the themes as recurring lenses rather than six boxes that disappear after a unit test.

Understand the Course Project
The Course Project is completed during the AP Exam year and prepares students for two speaking free-response tasks: the Project Presentation and Project Q&A. The annual packet, released through the AP Digital Portfolio in January 2027, provides the prompt and a set of target-language sources.
For 2026–27, the project comes from Art and Creativity and uses music to investigate cultural products, practices, and perspectives across a Chinese-speaking region or community. Students research, develop a position, select evidence, and prepare to discuss their findings. The goal is inquiry supported by Chinese-language evidence—not a polished slideshow read aloud from memory.

Course Project 在 AP 考试学年完成，用于准备两项口语自由回答任务：Project Presentation 和 Project Q&A。2027年1月，学生将通过 AP Digital Portfolio 收到当年的任务说明和目标语资料。

Build the project skills before January
Do not wait for the official packet to introduce research. Short, low-stakes inquiry cycles in the fall can make the required project feel like familiar work.
- Interpret a short article, chart, image, or audio clip and state its main idea.
- Record source information and distinguish evidence from personal opinion.
- Connect a cultural product or practice to a possible cultural perspective.
- Synthesize two sources instead of summarizing each one separately.
- Give a timed explanation, then answer an unplanned follow-up question.
1月之前建立项目能力
不要等到官方材料发布才开始教研究。秋季学期可以安排简短、低压的探究循环，让正式项目变成学生熟悉的学习方式。
- 理解短文、图表、图像或音频，说出主旨。

Plan the PPR carefully
Students submit a Personalized Project Reference (PPR) through the AP Digital Portfolio by April 30, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. ET. It functions as an outline for the presentation; students receive a printed copy for reference on exam day.
Treat the PPR as the final product of an evidence-organizing process. Students should first develop and rehearse a complete line of reasoning, then reduce it to a useful outline. Schedule an internal school deadline before April 30 so there is time to confirm submission status and coordinate with the AP coordinator.

Prepare for Bluebook, not just for Chinese
The AP Chinese exam is scheduled for May 13, 2027, Session 2, and will be fully digital in Bluebook. Students will hear audio prompts and record speaking responses directly in the application. Wired headsets with microphones are required; the previous recorder- and CD-based workflow will no longer be used.
Build familiarity through brief timed practice with headphones, microphone checks, screen-based reading, and transitions between task types. Technology rehearsal should reduce cognitive load, not replace language instruction.
既要准备中文，也要准备 Bluebook
AP 中文考试定于 2027年5月13日第二场举行，并将通过 Bluebook 全数字化完成。学生将直接在应用中听取音频提示并录制口语回答。考试要求使用带麦克风的有线耳机，不再使用以前的录音设备和 CD 流程。
可通过短时限时练习、耳机和麦克风检查、屏幕阅读以及任务切换来降低技术负担。技术排练的目的是让学生更专注于语言，而不是取代语言教学。
A practical planning sequence
- Summer: read the revised CED and map the six themes to your existing strong units.
- Fall: establish weekly authentic-input routines and recurring source-based speaking tasks.
- Before January: teach citation, note-taking, synthesis, and follow-up-question strategies.
- January–April: use milestones for inquiry, evidence, rehearsal, PPR drafting, and submission.
- Before May 13: rehearse the Bluebook experience and confirm device and headset readiness.
